We started another early day with Paolo Cherchi Usai’s “short” experimental film called Passio, and ended it with the late showing of 7 shorts set in the UK called Civic Life. Although the beginning and ending events weren’t quite up to the excellence we’d been used to, the three films in the middle far and above exceeded it.

With a much needed rest after Passio, we were ready to take on Catch a Fire, a very moving film about South African apartheid. Then a quick coffee break and on to The Us vs John Lennon, a more mainstream documentary about Lennon’s fight against Nixon, the FBI and the INS. Finally, my favorite today was Das Leben der Anderen, an intense story about Stasi surveillance on an East German playwright and how one attempts to be a good person.
