12:08 East of Bucharest: sweet and funny movie about a talk show in a Bucharest suburb debating whether or not the revolution happened there before Ceaucescu stepped down. I love eastern european comedies and really enjoyed this. great music too.
The Namesake: Mira Nair’s new movie about an American born Bengali boy named Gogol by his father. a memorable and touching family story, I liked this movie too as it showed many insightful family interactions.
The Page Turner: a girl gets revenge on the music judge that fails her in her childhood. I wished it wouldn’t just end with simple acts of revenge but maybe go elsewhere, like into forgiveness and ultimate happiness, but i guess I still had too much Nelson Mandela on my mind. Preceeded by a strange short film about a father drowning his daughter.
Ghosts of Cite Soleil: documentary about a gang that protects Aristide. Although amazing that they got so much footage, as a movie it was somewhat repetitive and i fell asleep in the middle of it, but it made me think again though about why the caribbean region is so unstable and economically poor.
Indigenes (Days of Glory): a war movie that i actually liked, about the north african troops fighting for france in ww2.
