Four more movies! The first was a Tajik film that came off surprisingly well, To get to heaven first you have to die. I love hearing the Tajik & Russian and noting all the language subtleties. The story played well too. Next was Lights in the Dusk, a Finnish film that had some Russian at the beginning, but overall just didn’t hold up nearly as well as the Tajik. A slow, unconvincing story about a dumb man. Then we saw Bamako, which sounded like a good relationship story but ended up being more interesting for its political commentary as the details of a mock trial against the World Bank weave in and out of what seemed like several other plots. unfortunately, none of the stories was cohesive enough to keep me awake through it. And then finally we saw Borat! Turned out the screening Thursday night was cut short due to mechanical problems so they showed it again at a bigger theater last night and we were able to get tickets. By far the funniest movie I have ever seen!
