a reader asks:
If someone was a really good baker and gave you cookies they made, would you still eat them if you knew they had mice in their kitchen?
we had a mouse in our “kitchen” this week. caught it in a glue trap behind the counter, and then david shot it in the head with a pellet gun. of course, but there’s no oven, hence no cookies to bake.
Still, i tend to be pretty trusting that people take reasonable cleanliness measures and am not too paranoid about contamination.
Hmm… while looking for a suitable dead mouse photo, i found this article about 3 Stench Ridden days… We currently have an awful smell in our garage too… and several computers in there as well…
[Alisa on Thu, 16 Nov 2006 at 11:41:29] That’s why I like you. One reason, I guess. I think most people are creeped out about rodents contaminating their food. Even the possibility. But I’m more of the school “that which doesn’t kill you will make you stronger,” and my grandmother used to say we should eat a bit of dirt every day to keep us healthy. But then most people have lawns, and things hung properly on their walls, and decorative touches in their living rooms. Not buckets to catch the rain, and torn plastic bags to keep the water from ruining their cookbooks. Are we masquerading in the corporate world, or are there more of us running along the office wainscotting?
[ca on Thu, 16 Nov 2006 at 12:24:23] i was going to add that about what doesn’t kill you, but i was posting while listening to conference calls before my flight. that’s definitely how i feel — every bit of contamination builds immunity. and funny, those who go to extreme measures to avoid getting infected seem to be the ones who end up sickest the most often. it’s like the more determined you are to avoid it, the more likely you’ll find it. are there more people who think this way? hard to tell when it seems like most people seem to take pleasure in spouting off about their phobias, complexes and issues rather than just accepting and dealing with them.
