I saw three films at the SFFS Italian film festival this week.
Sunday: The Wedding Director(with David & my italian teacher Anna)
Beautifully filmed but hard to follow (even for italian speakers) and multiple dream endings left me with that feeling of triteness. Some interesting commentary and allegories with filmmaking, but overheard lots of people say they didn’t like it.
Monday: Good morning, night (with Leslie)
Much more interesting and enjoyable than the first one, though by the same director and using the same multiple-ending / dream sequence gimmicks. Still, hard to go too wrong with radical hostage taking as your subject.
Tuesday: The Wind blows round + The shoe (with Isabella — she slept)
Interesting short about a woman and her new stillettos, and then a wonderful Occitan film about french pyrenese shepherds moving into a northern italian village that thinks it wants to be a tourist town. The lead actor reminded me of Gerard Depardieu, but it was his first film from what i can tell.
[jennconspiracy on Thu, 16 Nov 2006 at 18:35:08]I didn’t know there was a film festival this week - would have loved to attend. Did you know I am a big afficionado of foreign/indie films and film festivals?
