We took a beautiful 6 hour hike today, climbing over 3000 feet vertical (starting at an elevation of over 8000 feet), first along the bear creek trail to the waterfall, during which we were caught in a pretty good rain fall. Then we ascended even higher up the wasatch trail, and after about 4 hours we began to wonder if it would ever get around this mountain to the ski resort, where we hoped to catch the gondola back down to town. We passed a few old mining camps, and some really cool rusted machinery, took a little nap along the creek next to a marmot and a baby chipmunk, ate lots of wild raspberries, and generally had a great time catching up and being together after our summer apart. More rain and a huge rainbow (david should have photos up soon)… and we were a bit relieved but a little sad to finally make it to the other side and start our descent, which was even harder on the ankles and knees than the uphill climb. Less than two hours later, we rolled down the ski slopes to the gondola midpoint and had a nice plunge into town, where we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the Bluepoint grill and a fun movie, Brick Lane.
Goodbye telluride for this year, next stop Toronto.
