I just got back from a little adventure... after nearly having a nervous breakdown trying to drive a rental fiat out of Florence, i had a very lovely and uneventful hour's drive to pieve di cerreto to look at an apt we’re considering buying:
what a coincidence that the price of this apt is close to the profit i made on selling my house! I am completely in love with it! It’s attached to an old church in a quiet little town up on a hill. I could easily live there.
And driving wasn’t so bad once I figured out where i was going to get out of town. I hate driving without directions in unfamiliar territory. That is a big stress point for me. The GPS should help with that but the new system Hertz has is this portable thing that has some mounting arm attached to it, but it doesn’t mount to anything! so you can’t just put it down somewhere. Invariably, anywhere convenient to your eyesight blocks the gear shifter. And for some reason it couldn’t figure out where I was when I was in the city. Not until I got close to the freeway by mainly following signs did it finally get going. After that it was pretty useful and smooth driving. I love driving in Europe. You can either go fast in the left lane, or take you time in the slow lane. As long as you’re not blocking anyone in the left lane, no one gets mad at you. And they have a nice toll system that takes credit cards, although I just paid cash, it wasn’t that much. Things seem cheaper here than in Paris. I am learning Italian.
